At Range Control: signing out keys etc.
Prior to commencing fire, get permission to go live
Hourly Radio Check
When finished firing
1) AT RANGE CONTROL: SIGNING OUT KEYS ETC.
- Sign out key#26 (Batouche Range) and key#89 (RNBRA trailer)
- Sign out a radio, and a red flag (for range gate)
- Get a copy of the DRSOs (Daily Range Standing Orders).
- No need to sign out a rake, shovel, stretcher, etc, we have those in our trailer.
- Look in the DRSOs, find our event, note the line number ("serial") of the event; if we're the only one listed we are "Serial 1", etc.
- Set up the radio and contact Range Control:
Range Control: "One-Foxtrot, Range Control, Send"
RNBRA: "Range Control, One-Foxtrot requests permission to go live. We are Serial NNNN (the number you've looked up) on the DRSOs. OIC (officer in command) is XXXX(your surname), we will be firing 762 and 556, the flags are up, the gate is closed and locked, we have our first aid and safety vehicles in place."
Range Control: "One-Foxtrot, ...(he'll probably read back the particulars you gave him)..., is this correct?
RNBRA: Range Control, One-Foxtrot, Roger.
Range Control: "One Foxtrot, permission to go live granted"
RNBRA: "Range Control, One-Foxtrot, permission to go live granted, thank-you and Out".
3) HOURLY RADIO CHECK ( AS CLOSE TO THE HOUR AS YOU CAN MANAGE)
RNBRA: "Range Control, this is one-Foxtrot, radio check"
Range Control: "One Foxtrot, Range Control, reading you five by five"
RNBRA: "Range Control, One-Foxtrot, thank-you, Out".
4) WHEN FINISHED FIRING
RNBRA: "Range Control, this is one-Foxtrot"
Range Control: "One Foxtrot, Range Control, send"
RNBRA: "Range Control, One-Foxtrot, we are finished firing for the day"
Range Control: "One Foxtrot, Roger. We'll send a patrolman out to clear you"
RNBRA: "Range Control, One-Foxtrot, Out".
Prepare the range inspection sheet, have it ready for when the range patrolman arrives.
