NOVEMBER 7, 2017 - GEORGE COOK PASSED AWAY

It is with sadness that I have to report that fellow shooter and fierce competitor GEORGE COOK passed away last night. We extend our sympathy and condolences to George's wife, Linda, and family.
Most of his life, George competed in target rifle competitions.  He attended the first Canadian Winter games in Quebec City in 1967, shooting in the .22 sporting rifle competition.  He attended the Small Bore Nationals at Kitchener, Ontario, in 1975 and 1976, taking 7 finals—the first time ever done.  He shot .308 target rifle at the Nationals in Ottawa for many years and won a position on the 1992 team from Canada to go to Bisley, England, for the World’s Competition.  George and Linda attended the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace while there.  George won numerous medals and trophies, including the Governor’s General’s medal for shooting.
Hunting was George’s second love, and he could often be seen with his wife, Linda, as they struck out on another deer hunting trip.  In his younger years, he spent much time on the Miramichi River fly fishing with his Dad.  George loved to teach young people gun safety and hunting skills.
Visiting will be held at Ells Funeral Home on Thursday, November, 9, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Grand Harbour, on Friday November, 10, 2017 at 1:00pm.
George’s family have requested donation be made in his memory to the Grand Manan Boys and Girls Club, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, or to the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are in care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2.  Condolences, messages of sympathy may also be sent to www.ells.ca or (506) 662-3116.

OCTOBER 9, 2017 - ALL COMERS MATCH AND ANY RIFLE/ANY SIGHTS MATCH - RESULTS

Many thanks to Don Coleman, Match Director for this match, for sending this report and the pictures.
The "All Comers Match" which had been sheduled
for last week was shot today as the ranged was taken by the RCR for their training last week. This made it necessary to fire the "All Comers Match" and the "Any Rifle/Any Sights" match at the same time.

A sunny day with afternoon temperatures near 20C made for pleasant conditions on the last day at Batouche Range for 2017. Winds were southwesterly and fairly light in the morning but picked up with gusts to 20 kms in the afternoon. Fishtailing and quickly changing winds caused scores to drop significantly at 500 and 600 meters.
Note: There were only a few people who fired at 900 and this consisted of training. Daniel Chisholm fired a few shots at 900.

We warmly welcomed two new shooters, Josh White and Nick Buchanan who enjoyed the shooting and will join next year.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2017 - MINI-PALMA and SUNDAY FUN MATCH - RESULTS

Thanks to Adam MacDonald for these results and also to Laura Kaderly for the pictures.

The Maritime Mini-Palma team was composed of Adam MacDonald who was the Team Captain and who worked very hard to organize this match. He was also a wind coach and FTR shooter. Other F-Class shooters included Gordon Holloway, Paul Bastarache and Harrison Brown. Don Coleman was a wind coach and TR Shooter. Other TR shoores included Marcel Kolb, Ron Surette, Ian Hogg, Marc McMullin, Braden Colman-Sadd and Ken Geddes.

The New England shooters included Pete Desantis, Armando Coello, Larry Racine, Todd Labarge, Amanda Basso, Greg Grosso, Ron Ouimette, Ron Sekellick, Dan Sales, John Short and Wade Fillingame.
The RO for both days was Dollard LeBlanc.

As for the match itself, it went very well. Weather was perfect, we stayed on schedule, and we had almost no problems with the targets. The wind was very difficult and made for excellent competitive shooting. Special mention to Laura Kaderly who worked both days to help everyone with the tablets, manage the scorecards and results, and be everyone's first point of contact while I was coaching and shooting.

SEPTEMBER 16, 2017 - TEAM TRAINING

Today was a Team Training event in preparation of the Mini-Palma. Thanks to Adam for sending the following information.
Adam MacDonald was the Match Director. He also coached one target while Don Coleman coached another.
The wind was quite challenging and a good learning experience. The mirage switched directions often and the flags were readable as well, making for a good opportunitiy to practice 1/4 moa wind calls at 900.

The following (not all team members) were present:
Adam MacDonald
Daniel Chisholm
Gordon Holloway
Harrison Brown
Roly Trainor
Don Coleman
Ken Kyle
Ron Surette
