The RNBRA Fullbore Section had the privilege of hosting the 2018 Atlantic Fullbore Championships on September 01-03, 2018. The shoot was held on Batouche range located in the 5 CDSB Gagetown training area.
The event was well attended with 26 competitors from PEI, NS, Quebec, and the host province NB. We had 17 F-class and 9 TR shooters. The Atlantics consist of 4 separate matches, one for each Atlantic province.
The Lady Slipper match was shot Saturday, September 01. The morning had some fog, but it cleared off well before the shooting began. Final setup and preparations went smoothly and the shoot began only slightly behind schedule. Conditions were fantastic during setup, with no wind at all. By the time it came to shoot the wind had picked up and the temperature had soared. Shooters dealt with a tricky tail wind all afternoon, resulting in more than a couple magpies.
The Blue Noser and Herring Choker matches were held Sunday, September 02. Sunday morning was cool, and a little overcast, with calmer winds than the day before allowing for some good scores. The afternoon was warm, and competitors once again had to deal with a challenging tail wind. An informal dinner was held Sunday evening at Minglers restaurant in Oromocto. Presentations for the completed matches were made after the dinner.
The 3 day match finished with the Down Easter on Monday, September 03. We took advantage of Batouche range and shot 2 relays at 900m. Rain threatened all morning, but the weather held, and we finished the match without getting wet. We ended the weekend with a cornboil and final presentations.
A big thank you goes to Laura Kaderly and Dollard LeBlanc. The match would have been impossible to run without their help. Laura dealt with any e-target issues and looked after the stats, and Dollard was the RSO for the weekend.
Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all the competitors’ and volunteers who helped make it a success.
