NB team for 2011 InterMaritime Match and British Team Match

On Sat-18-June the Intermaritime Match will be fired at St. Antoine, and the British Team Match will be fired on Sun-19-June.  The I.M. Match has been fired for more than 100 years, and the British Team Match has been fired since the 1960s.

Provincial teams for these matches will consist of eight shooters, up to three of which may be F-Class.  One of these F-Class shooters may be F-Open, the rest must be F/Restricted (i.e. .223 or .308).  (See the 2010 Atlantic Highpower meeting minutes for more info).  Please note that we can also use any of our MTR shooters, since they fully fit within the rules for F/Restricted.

I am looking to form a New Brunswick team for this match.  Usually we designate one of our matches to be the team trials but due to an oversight on my part we did not do that this year.  Although never published, we had discussed designating the 29-May Fredericton Centennial Match to be used for the trials, and we also discussed using the 22-May Intro Level Circle Training instead (since shooting under team conditions might be a more relevant way of selecting shooters for a team match).  If it is OK with our shooters I would like to suggest that we give first priority to anybody who fired either of these two events, and then second priority to any other shooters.

Match results - Fredericton Centennial

On Sun-29-May-2011 we fired the Fredericton Centennial match at Batouche Range.  I think every one of us was shocked that it didn't rain, and it wasn't cold; certainly not the sort of shooting weather we have come to expect in May!

Conditions were quite windy, an almost entirely fishtailing wind for the whole day.  Even more challenging the wind seemed to be completely mixed up down the entire length of the range.  For the day the average wind was "0", and that would get you in the bull most of the time, except for the times that it didn't.  Then you could see 3's and even 2's from the wind.

raining today... will try to run match anyhow

The Loyalist St.John Westmorland Counties Match is scheduled for today Sunday 15-May-2011. At this time it is raining where I live and the 5:00AM Environment Canada forecast is calling for "Rain. Amount 10 to 15 mm. Fog patches dissipating this evening. Wind becoming northeast 20 km/h gusting to 40 late this evening. Low plus 3.".

I will go to the range and if anybody shows up and wants to shoot we will go ahead. If you have a 2+hour drive and don't want to risk wasting a drive for no shooting then by all means stay at home and we'll see you next week

All Comers Match this weekend

RNBRA Fullbore Section's first match of 2011 will be fired this Saturday at Batouche Range. Course of fire is 2 sighters and 10 on score at 300m, 500m and 600m.  Match start time is 09:00, please arrive a bit early to help set up the range. The Match Director is Matt Wolf.

Annual Prize Meeting this weekend!

UPDATE 28-JULY Firing of the Annual Prize Meet will be completed this Sunday 1-Aug At Batouche Range.  

Following the shooting, trophies and medals will be presented.  We will fire:

• 2ss10 @ 800m Prince of Wales Final
• 2ss10 @ 800m Gov. Gen. 2nd Stage
• 2ss10 @ 900m Gov. Gen. Final

Anybody who paid full entry fees last week does not need to pay any more in order to shoot this Sunday.  Anybody who wishes to join us this Sunday is welcome to do so; matches are priced individually, all three will cost $40.

Please arrive at the range no later than 08:00

If you are shooting, it would be most helpful if you would RSVP by Friday, so that sufficient target markers can be arranged.

ANYBODY WHO HAS NOT RSVP'd BY FRIDAY WILL BE ACCOMMODATED ON A BEST-EFFORTS BASIS ONLY.

"Practice" match this Sunday 18 July 2010

THIS SUNDAY'S RNBRA MATCH: Sunday July 18, 2010, starting at 0830, Wayne Kaye will conduct an un-named fullbore target match at Batouche Range, CTC GAGETOWN. Fee $20.00. It will give a good chance to practice at most ranges in preparation for our APM to be held the following weekend. Note: This will NOT be a Precision match, despite what our schedule says. We will use our regular targets.

 

On the following Weekend of July 24, 25, The RNBRA provincial fullbore championship will be held at Batouche Range. We will soon send you the Program for this annual APM ('annual prize meet"). Please check your email and tell your friends.  Regards, Conrad.

Two Days of Long Range shooting this weekend!

COLEMAN/STAPLEFORD MATCH (SUNDAY) IS CANCELLED DUE TO FORECASTED RAIN


UPDATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON:  The Circle training got underway at 9:30am with 11 people firing on two targets.  We got as far as 10:00 before the rain started, slowly, and steadily started to build.  Everybody got to shoot once, at which point we were wet and happy to call it a day around noontime.

UPDATE SATURDAY MORNING at 05:10: We'll go ahead with the Circle Training.  There's a good chance that we'll get to shoot at least for the morning; if you're making a long drive, make your own decision if the drive is worth it.  Also Matt is bringing a light portable shelter for the firing line, which ought to help us deal with drizzle.  Keep watching here Sat-evening and Sun-morning for updates on Sunday's scheduled match.

UPDATE FRIDAY EVENING:  still playing the weather forecast by ear.  Looks like we'll probably get at least the morning's shoot out of it.  I'll hold off until 05:00AM tomorrow morning though, I'll check the weather then, and if it's really snotty I'll cancel the match and post a notice here.  Otherwise we'll give it a try.

This weekend RNBRA Fullbore Section will be conducting two days of long range shooting at Batouche Range CFB Gagetown (link to Google map and driving directions).

On Saturday 5 June we will be holding the Circle Training - Advanced Level.  We found at last year's Circle Training that there was a very wide variation in experience levels, which slowed things down quite a bit, hence the designation of this one as "Advanced Level".  Don't let that intimidate you (too) much.  If you have already fired one of our Circle Training events, consider yourself invited.  If you have existing experience shooting long range, consider yourself invited.  If you have a rifle that can reasonably be expected to shoot well at long range, please contact me and we can discuss things and find a way to fit you in.

It would be greatly appreciated if you would RSVP your attendance to Event Director Daniel Chisholm.  There is a fair bit of preparation to do for this, and knowing how many will show up will really help get things going smoothly.

The Circle Training will start at 09:30, so please try to be at the range by 09:00.  If you live close enough that you are able to show up at 08:15 to help us set things up, that would be greatly appreciated.  If you are driving three or five hours from out of province, it is OK if you show up at 10:30 or 11:00, we will plan for your late arrival and fit you in - provided you have RSVP'd me (hint!!)

The fee for the Circle Training will be $10.  Shooting will be 2ss10, at least twice, hopefully three if we can keep things running smoothly enough, so 36 rounds will do you for the day.

On Sunday 6 June we will be firing the Coleman/Stapleford long range matches.  Match fee is $20.  In the morning we will fire 900m twice, 2ss10 each time.  In the afternoon we will fire 800m twice, again 2ss10 each time.  Match Director is Matt Wolf, start time is 09:00.

Fredericton Centennial Match

We will be firing the Fredericton Centenntial Match tomorrow Sat-22-May-2010 at Batouche Range, CFB Gagetown, starting at 09:00 (please show up by 08:30 to set up the range and register for the match).  The course of fire will be 2 sighters and 10 on score at 500 metres, twice, and then 2 sighters and 10 on score at 600 metres, also twice - so 48 rounds for the day.  Our match fee is still $20.  Match director is Daniel Chisholm.

Since this is still early in the year, I will have some RNBRA membership forms with me at the range.

Also, please remember that next weekend's match the RCR Centennial (Sun-30-May) has been moved to St. Antoine Gun Club.  It is also a 500m & 600m match.

Last weekend's Intro Level Circle Training at St. Antoine worked out quite well.  We had ten people on Saturday day and eight people on Sunday, including three brand new people.  It seemed to me that having the second day was really quite helpful, I think everybody on day 2 ended up building very well on day 1's work.  I was so pleased to see that the new guys really caught onto things quite quickly, and by day 2 seemed to really "get" the various judgements and involved in fullbore shooting (seeing a group form shot-by-shot, centring it up, making educated guesses about what the group, wind indicators and shooters' calls might be telling you, etc).

Intro Level Circle Training 15&16 May

EDIT 17-May - We had a pleasant and successful event, ten shooters on Saturday and eight on Sunday.  Having two days back-to-back was quite helpful, on Sunday we got to build quite a bit on Saturday's experience.  St. Antoine is a beautiful facility, I'm looking forward to shooting there again later this month at the RCR Centennial Match 30-May (500m & 600m).


There will be two "Circle Training" events this year.  The first one is this coming weekend, Sat-Sun 15-16 May, and will be held at the St. Antoine Gun Club.

This will be an "Introductory Level" event; it will be straightforward for everyone, including complete beginners, to participate and get something useful from it.  The other Circle Training event on our schedule (5-June) will be an Advanced Level one, which will require either that you have a fair bit of experience with team shooting, or you have taken this Intro Level and are keen to keep going.

THIS EVENT IS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT SHOOTING; almost all of our shooting days are individual matches, in which coaching while shooting is in progress would be considered to be cheating.  This is NOT A MATCH, and is not only a great opportunity for brand new shooters to try outdoor centrefire target rifle shooting, it is also one of the few opportunities for competitors to sit back and try something new and perhaps even take a step toward the next level of their shooting progress.

We will only fire 300m for this Intro Level Circle Training course, so we won't be dealing with any particular wind-reading challenge.  Instead we will focus on team shooting procedures, shooter-coach-plotter communications and interaction, plotting groups, operating a plotomatic, centering groups, etc.

Feel free to shoot one or both days.  Each day will be essentially the same format.  We'll form groups of approximately six people, who will then spend the day on a target and cycle through the different roles of the "circle" - one pair will operate the target in the butts, another pair will shoot, and the third pair will coach the shooters.  The third pair will takes turns acting as Coach and as Assistant Coach (plotter).  After the two shooters have fired, we'll cycle through and shift roles of each pair - so when the day is done everybody will have done each role twice or three times.

Bring enough ammo to shoot twice or three times in a day (24 or 36 rounds per day ought to do it).

Ron advises me that you should bring raingear and especially bug dope, he expects the flies will be quite hungry by this weekend.

Camping is available on the site, and you may use the facilities in the clubhouse but please remember you are responsible for your behaviour.  If your would like to camp, please contact me (dmc@danielchisholm.com) or Ron prior to this weekend so he can open up the building for you.

The fee for each day will be $10.

If it rains much we'll make a smart retreat into the clubhouse before we or our gear get too terribly wet and we'll spend some time there doing "classroom" stuff while we wait for comfortable weather.  We'll save the "how-to-shoot-and-win-in-miserable-weather" lesson for some other day....!  There are plenty of useful things that can be learned in warmth and comfort - shooting of groups, centring of groups, shooter-coach communications, match procedures and tactics, etc.
