SEPTEMBER 28, 2014 - THE CHISHOLM CHALLENGE (AKA THE KEEN EYEBALL AND STEADY FINGER MATCH) - RESULTS

Thanks to Michael Lutes for sending this write-up and to Ash Pardy for the pictures:

As the Match Director, I can report that the inaugural running of the Chisholm Challenge was a very enjoyable day for those 7 shooters who attended.

We enjoyed a great day of shooting. The weather was fantastic with enough switching wind to keep everyone on their toes.

We shot 2 & 10 twice at 500 meters and again at 900m. Several shooters were happy to confirm their long range load development has payed off and others realized there is work to do yet.

The 6 F-Class shooters were Ahmed Aljazzat, Kevin Gallivan, Gordon Holloway, Adam MacDonald, Paul McIlveen and Ash Pardy. They enjoyed good competition with Gordon Holloway winning the day with 50.5 50.6 49.5 49.8. Paul gave hard chase to finish second vowing to return with a harder bag next year.

I was the token target rifle shooter with a functioning rifle and ammo combination and I was pleased to identify why my shooting performance during the Mini Palma last weekend was erratic. I coached scope shooters last weekend and imprinted on their scope correction direction which had me turning my iron sight opposite to what my coach asked for.

The shoot was a great success for all those who participated as the opportunity to shoot at 900 m is highly valued.

I really must thank Adam and Ahmed who showed up early to help set up and they looked after the e-target scoring system which worked very well.

SEPTEMBER 20 and 21, 2014 - MINI-PALMA MATCH IN READING, MASSACHUSETTS

As in years past, the Maritime Provinces fielded a Mini-Palma team which, this year competed against a New England States team shooting in Reading, Massachusetts. Our team consists of the following top notch shooters selected at the Atlantic Championships:

John Marshall - Team Captain, Coach and TR shooter

Michael Lutes - Coach and TR shooter
Marcel Kolb - TR shooter
Conrad Leroux - TR shooter
Armen Papasyan - FTR shooter
Paul Bastarache - FTR shooter
Adam MacDonald - FTR shooter

Congratulations go to the Maritime Provinces Mini-Palma Team which won the Match - with a narrow margin! Also congratulations to Paul Bastarache who was the top FTR shooter.
Here is the write up by Jim Hahn, Captain of the New England Team:
"Well, the Canadians did it again.  They beat the New England states.  Not by much, but they did it!  They were last seen trudging away gleefully from the banquet, trophy in hand.

As the Maritime Provinces were not able to field a full team, a percentage system was used to determine the winner.
   96.55%  Canada  and  96.38%  USA

The folks in the USA thank the Canadians for coming and look forward to more years of competition.

High individual sling/iron sights shooter was John Field from Massachusetts with a score of 595-31X.  Second was junior shooter Nash Neubauer from Connecticut coming in with a 595-25X. Pretty good for a kid, huh?  John takes home the High Individual trophy.

Canadian Paul Bastarache's 584-25X took F-Class followed by Ralph Tufano (Massachusetts) with a 584-23X.  Ouch, two X's!

Attached are a small number of photos taken at the match and banquet.  The score sheet is easily readable.  We are looking for a way to make all the photos available on the Internet and will let folks know when we figure it out.  My thanks to my wife for taking the photos and helping with match and banquet operations.

I also need to thank Ralph Tufano for his help. He did all the work providing targets and target markers/pullers.  I could not have done it without his many hours of work behind the scenes.

Also thanks to Ralph and Mo DeFina for direct financial donations. Plus a very special thanks to Charlie Trickett, High Power Director at Reading Rifle for providing the venue.

The match was held at Reading Rifle and Revolver Club in Reading, MA, USA on 20 September 2014.  Weather was cool in the early morning but getting up to the upper 60's (that's Fahrenheit) by mid-day.  Light winds and partly cloudy.

Thanks to all and see you next year!!

SEPTEMBER 13, 2014 - ST. ANTOINE - MINI-PALMA COACHING DAY

Several shooters and coaches attended this coaching training day in Saint Antoine. Looks like the sun was out and the wind was not too bad! Thanks to Michael Lutes for sending the following:

Everyone had a great time and the weather was great with moderately switching wind and mirage during the first string. We split into two groups of 6 and 7 shooters and shot 2 strings of 2 & 20 at 600m - some kept score and some did not. I viewed it as primarily a coaching practice and some of us took the opportunity to burn those boxes of ammo with  3 rounds left in them. I coached Paul and Don back to back and I can tell you both guns and drivers shoot well, but the 155s will never compete with 200s driven well. Enough wind to move Don from one side of the bull to the other would only move Paul's shots from one side of the v to the other. Paul, Conrad, Adam and I were the only team members present.

2014 - ANNUAL MEETING OF THE RNBRA - OCTOBER 19, 2014 IN SUSSEX

Hello fellow shooters;

We hope you are enjoying your summer holiday and shooting season. It's been a great summer for RNBRA shooting programs and several clubs are actively promoting shooting programs that include hosting provincial and interprovincial events in cooperation with the RNBRA. We are fortunate these clubs are able to help support  a provincial approach to developing shooting sports in NB and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with all clubs. Clubs are welcome and encouraged to send a representative to attend the AGM and report back to their club. Only regular full RNBRA members in good standing will vote on AGM business.  Club affiliation has not provided a regular membership to the club representative for a few years.

The announcement today is that the 2014 RNBRA AGM will be held at the All Seasons Hotel and Restaurant in Sussex NB on October 19 starting at 9:00 am and will break for lunch around noon for 45 minutes. Lunch will not be provided this year as the we feel the money will be better spent in direct promotion of competitive shooting. We hope you will make plans to attend as we are looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

By now you have had a chance to review the revised Bylaws and Constitution proposed by the Board and if somehow you haven't, please do.
At this years AGM, we will be asking you to ratify the Bylaws and Constitution . If you have questions or concerns please contact us (anyone on the RNBRA Board) for clarification asap as that will speed the meeting and allow more time for discussion of other issues or ideas you would like to bring up and talk about.

We will also ask you to vote for or against the nominees that are standing for election.  We will try to circulate an agenda prior to the meeting for your information

Good Shooting,
Michael Lutes
