NEWS FROM NOVA SCOTIA RE: OUR SHOOTING FRIEND JOHN MARSHALL

I want to thank, both personally and on behalf of the Association, Mr. John Marshall. 

John has advised the Board of Directors that he will be retiring from the position of Section Chairman for the Fullbore Target Rifle Section at the end of the 2014 shooting season. 

John has been a Member of the Nova Scotia Rifle Association since the mid 1950’s and has been a driving force in the sport for many, many years. John’s numerous successes in his shooting career began with qualifying for the Canadian Rifle Team to Bisley in 1956 and have continued as recently as his win of the Purdy Match in October 2014. During this career, John has won every NSRA Fullbore Target Rifle match on multiple occasions, including the individual Provincial Championship nine times. John has been a member of the Canadian Rifle Team to Bisley in each of the last seven decades and has served as both Adjutant and Commandant. 

John has also served terms as President and Vice President of the Nova Scotia Rifle Association and has been a member of Dominion of Canada Rifle Association Council for many years. Most recently, John has served the NSRA as a Board Member and has worked tirelessly for many years as a Section Chairman.

FULLBORE SECTION SCHEDULE CHANGE

We have been informed  by Chuck Bachmanek, President of the PEIRA, that a scheduling conflict at the Alexandra Range will require a change in the date for the Inter-maritime Match and the British Team Match. These are presently scheduled on June 20 and June 21, 2015 respectively.

Please note:  the Inter-maritime Match will now be held on June 13, 2015 and the British Team Match will be shot on June 14, 2015. Both at the Alexandra Range in PEI.

Also Note: the RCR Match will now be shot on June 20, 2015 at the St. Antoine Range.

RNBRA JANUARY 2015 UPDATE

Hello Fellow Northerners; 
I hope you are enjoying time on the range with no flies. For those who are in more temperate areas you don't know what you’re missing.

One quick request before the update. It's the New Year and your membership is due. If you haven't yet had a chance, go to RNBRA.ca and print off the applicable membership form then fill it out and get it in the mail. You'll have it done, the people that process it will thank you and you will avoid the late charge on individual memberships. (New this year). I know everyone understands this is the time to get as much of the administration work done as possible. As you know the RNBRA buys insurance for all regular members and it runs from April 1st till March 31 which is our fiscal year. Renewing your membership now will cut down on the administration and cost associated with late renewal.

I just learned a valuable lesson about the Gem Pro 250 electronic scale I purchased a while back. After initial setup and calibration I found the scale to be very accurate and consistent and it sped up the process of loading good long range 308 ammo substantially. I spent a few hours at the loading bench in the first few weeks and I was very pleased with my new scale.

Fast forward to a week ago when I needed to decompress and retired to the loading/gun room to work on a fun project, (200 grain cast bullets going slower than the speed of sound in the little Lee Enfield my Grandfather carried for many years). In

LETTER FROM MICHAEL LUTES TO ALL GUN CLUBS, SHOOTING ASSOCIATIONS, and OTHER ORGANIZED GROUPS OF FIREARMS ENTHUSIASTS IN NEW BRUNSWICK

To all GUN CLUBS, SHOOTING ASSOCIATIONS, and OTHER ORGANIZED
GROUPS OF FIREARMS ENTHUSIASTS IN NEW BRUNSWICK

I am writing to you because the governing board believes that the RNBRA must establish a plan to support long term stability and sustainable growth in our provincial shooting community.

As the provincially recognized organization for shooting sports the RNBRA wants to develop more programs and services for the organized groups of firearms enthusiasts that make up the majority of our provincial shooting community.

That is where you come in. I'm asking you to take this letter to your club executive for consideration.We must gather information and gauge interest from the clubs in order to develop programs that are relevant and supportive of club activities.

The RNBRA has been around since 1866, is democratically managed and will continue to promote shooting sports and marksmanship in New Brunswick (see www.RNBRA.ca). Historically the Association has been run by people primarily involved with high performance competition but we recognize that many firearms enthusiasts and club members have little interest in national or international shooting competition and only desire recreational shooting activities in the company of other responsible like-minded people.

The RNBRA can be further developed into a stronger provincial Association that better represents all shooter interest and we welcome your participation. 

MY QUESTION:
Would your club send one or two reps to one of 2 meetings that the RNBRA is considering hosting in the Province?
The meetings would be for the purpose of discussion with the club reps about what the RNBRA could develop and what the RNBRA needs to make that happen. These meetings would likely be 2 to 4 hrs on a Sat or Sun early in the new year.

THE M. ELLEN MACGILLIVRAY AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO FULLBORE SHOOTING IN NEW BRUNSWICK

In 2013, a new award for outstanding contributions to Fullbore Shooting in New Brunswick was introduced and this was formally named the M. Ellen MacGillivray Award at the 2014 Annual General Meeting of the RNBRA - Fullbore Section.

December 2 2014 " HERDING CATS"

Hi friends, deer hunting season is over and for a lot of us it's now a mad rush to finish as many of the little winterizing jobs as possible before the onset of winter proper. While I did not do any hunting this year I still have many unfinished outside jobs on the go and the short amount of daylight remaining when I get home from work has made me thankful that, God willing, I'll get another chance to do them in the daylight next year. As I've progressed in my life I am fortunate that each year I learn a bit that helps me to do a better job in the next.

Report from DCRA executive committee meeting held at Connaught range 

November 29, 2014

Daniel Chisholm and I attended this meeting as DCRA executive committee members, this was the first of these early winter meetings I have attended. This is the yearly meeting where much of the operational business of the DCRA is reviewed and decisions are discussed and made. 
I will highlight a few things of general interest to our Associations, I encourage anyone with
questions about the meeting or the DCRA in general to ask Daniel or me.
